| Automation can often result in a significant improvement in the safety of personnel in addition to enhancing the efficiency of processes as is commonly expected. This fact came to light recently when the introduction of a sheet shearing line made by Signode was deployed to win best Kaizen award at TATA Steel. Before the introduction of the machine, the process of sheet cutting in coil packaging was a manual process. This led to the sheet edges being uneven and also jagged which caused unsafe handling during application. Tapes getting cut in transit while posing a high risk of cuts/ injuries. However, after the manual process was replaced using a Signode machine, the risk of injuries have been significantly minimised and has enabled smoother operations. This small yet significant improvement has made a notable impact to be recognized as the best Kaizen. |
