| Recently, a leading Dye Yarn Cone manufacturing company placed an inquiry with Signode for a semi-automatic strapping machine. After doing the process study, our team found that the customer faces a bigger challenge – it manufactures multiple batches from different lines. This resulted in higher packaging time and lot of materials waiting to be packed. Further, the manual entry of data such as Batch number, Lot number and SKU into the system and on the carton was leading to wrong dispatches. After studying the process, our team proposed a solution with four filling stations to pack four batches using Human Machine Interface (HMI). The variable data of each SKU is directly fetched from their ERP system. The operator only enters the number of yarns and grade based on quality inspection before filling and moves the carton on weighing system and then generates label from the printer and pastes on the box. It further moves on to the taping & strapping machine for final packing. This process has simplified the packing process. It has resulted in other benefits such as – improved productivity, reduction of manpower, and elimination of manual error.
