| Conventional cushioning solutions lacked standardization and included use of materials such as newspapers, shredded paper, waste corrugated sheets and anything else which was handy and easily available. Needless to say, the cushioning was ineffective and failed to serve its purpose. More recently, EPS (expanded polystyrene) & EPE (expanded polyethylene) foams are being extensively used for cushioning. However, this requires investment in molds and fabrication while providing limited flexibility of usage. Additionally, they occupy large inventory space and are difficult to dispose by the end user. Signode Airflex cushioning solutions are specifically designed for inside the box cushioning applications. The multi-tubes structure provides excellent cushioning, flexibility and high load-bearing capacity at optimal costs thus maximizing product protection during handling and transportation. The Airflex cushioning solutions are based on the principle of using air as a cushioning medium. It is a multi-tubular column structure made by sandwiching two layers of PE films with a valve in between. It can be easily inflated using an inflator attached to pneumatic air supply or a compressor. The ‘non-return valve’ automatically locks the air after inflation enabling each tube to act as an independent air chamber, thereby ensuring that air remains trapped inside each column. It is available in roll form and can also be supplied as customized pouches for specific applications. |
