Our customer, a leading Indian pharma company, at its US based Distribution Center (DC), was faced with a multidimensional challenge of managing high capacity storage with restricted height and serving different order formats such as full pallet, mixed pallet and loose shippers. Our team worked on this brief to design a tailor made solution meeting the process requirements of the customer.
As part of Phase 1, we have supplied and commissioned an ASRS of 20,000 pallet positions which is in operation for the last nine months. Orders from customer’s ERP come in shippers quantity and our WCS(Warehouse control system) splits it into full pallet & mixed pallets & sends the pallets from the warehouse to the respective stations. For the mixed pallets, there are the picking stations with terminals on which the operator gets to see the number of shippers to be picked from each store pallet against the DO (Dispatch Order). After picking each shipper he places it on the target pallet and maps it with the bar code label of target pallet using wearable scanners. After picking is completed, the store pallet goes back to the warehouse & get stored in special module for partial pallet storage for quick retrieval against next order.
In additional to Oracle, WCS is also interfaced with UPS software through which it sends the shipper details against UPS order & applies the bar code label by automatic print & apply machine on the picking belt line.. The system has got best of class mechanical, electrical & logical safety features. All electrical & control components conforms to U/L standards. The execution of the project was carried out meeting all local legal requirements & stringent safety rules. At the end, the required qualifications processes were validated as per USFDA norms. The system has been designed keeping in mind Phase 2 processes & requirements which will have another 20000 pallets.
