With the lockdown came new challenges of business continuity. The need to run uninterrupted operations required us to quickly embrace technology to continue to serve our customers. From auditing of our equipment and tools platform to demonstration of FAT for coil packaging, it all happened online.
Signode was awarded a contract of $3.2 Million to supply an end of the packing line equipment by a global Aluminum producer for its plant in China. The customer’s project team, which was based across USA, Brazil and China, had scheduled to visit the Signode facility in Hyderabad, in April 2020 to inspect the complete line and do a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the schedule was cancelled.
Customer and Signode decided to do the inspection and FAT online. Over 5 days through 4-hour sessions each, signing in from three different time zones, we demonstrated the complete line with all the safety features, functional aspects, quality parameters and speed of line. We are glad to share that the customer gave the clearance for dispatch and hailed the efforts put in by Signodians to make the online FAT possible under these unprecedented circumstances.
Close on the heels of the FAT for coil packaging, Signode has completed FAT for two more domestic customers - one in the Paper Segment and the other in the Auto Segment.
The Signode India Equipment & Tools platform successfully underwent its QMS ISO9001:2015 periodic audit virtually during April 1-2, 2020. The Norway-headquartered international accredited registrar and classification society, DNV-GL conducted the audit. Due to the present constraints prevalent due to the COVID pandemic, the audit was conducted online, which was a first for both Signode India as well as the auditing team. The audit process was well planned and executed with the support of all departments, functional and BU heads, with technology playing the role of key enabler. The smooth process of the online audit also drew words of praise from the auditors who were very appreciative of Signode’s professionalism.
